Te Kakano, Trees, & a Triathlon
Back in February Dunlop Builders took the corporate trophy at the Challenge Wanaka triathlon, which took place in Glendhu Bay. As part of the prize the winning team received 40 trees to plant for The Te Kakano Aotearoa Trust.
Te Kakano is a Wānaka community-based native plant nursery that specialises in propagating plants of local origin (Upper Clutha region) and uses these plants for localised native habitat restoration. Te Kakano do fantastic work by both restoring native habitat and encouraging engagement throughout the community.
Dunlop Builders doubled the number of trees to be planted by donating a further 40. We sent both of the teams who competed in the event along to help.
The planting took place in Glendhu Bay - allowing us to give back to the beautiful place where we so lucky to be able to compete this year. Heavy rain stopped minutes before we started planting, and we had a wonderful afternoon working alongside the Challenge Wānaka trustees. The planting team had a great time and it was inspiring to hear more about the work Te Kakano do.
Dunlop Builders have decided to continue our support of Te Kakano and have organised monthly sessions and get our entire team of over 20 people out to help. Each month a different group of people will assist Te Kakano with maintenance and planting.
